It feels like you are watching a flaming barrel of unbridled horseshit flying across a sky of untold boredom
Recently, I reviewed Life, saying even though it wasn’t the slightest bit original, it didn’t matter because of its high production value and the quality of the drama as a piece. Sleepless is in a similar boat, with the difference being that it lacks originality in almost every corner, however, not an ounce of this is made up in the value of the film. Sleepless basically has no value.
Sleepless, is one pivotal night in the life of undercover cop Vincent Downs (Jamie Foxx). When his son is kidnapped from the passenger seat of his car, Vincent has to stop the drug dealers who have taken him. The chase leads Vincent to a casino where he is followed by police chief (Michelle Monaghan) as she suspects him of being a corrupt cop.
The direction throughout is atrocious. Jamie Foxx in particular has no idea what he is doing and it becomes both lethargic and boring. It feels like a “B” movie with a blockbuster budget. Michelle Monaghan is meant to come across as an angry cop, but actually looks as if she were some road rage driver with nonsensical fury.
The majority of the characters make some of the worst characterised mistakes of all time and Vincent is only meant to have been undercover for two years, yet his son acts like he’s never met him. The film just does not flow at all. It’s stop start rubbish.
Sleepless is some of the weakest and most predictable film making there will ever be, and it feels like you are watching a flaming barrel of unbridled horseshit flying across a sky of untold boredom.
